| “ALTERNATIVE MATERIALS” ART PIN CHALLENGE AND PIN SWAP | |
Carey Smith will be leading this amusing program to help us loosen up and look in new directions for design ideas and materials.
The challenge is to follow the steps below and create 4-5 fun pins to swap for pins other members will have made. (We already have commitments from members to make pins.) Step 1 - Eliminate your “jewelers (or sculptors) exactness”. Discard concerns about the preciousness of the materials. Abandon your anxiety about “who will buy it?”. |
Step 2 – Dig into your junk drawers, your scrap box and wherever you collect your potpourri of stuff. You are looking for “treasures” you can incorporate into the pins you will make. A few possibilities are paper clips, nuts, bolts, glitter, tiny toys, electronic parts, paper, rubber bands, ice cream sticks, aluminum cans, hardware, sewing items, plastics, and/or bones.
Step 3 – The pin mechanism can be a cheap (glue-on) pin back, a safety pin, a clothes pin, a tie tack back, an empty name tag sleeve, or whatever you can figure out. Step 4 – It would be great to incorporate “CMAG 2008” somewhere on the pin. Step 5 – Make 4-5 duplicates so you come armed to swap. Carey says that above all this should be fast, cheap, crazy, and probably inspired. P.S.- If you don’t have time to make any, come and enjoy a demo and the fun. | |
