Some of you had asked to let you know of future workshops. Here’s the next one:

I’ll bring samples of braided bracelets in various widths and different metals for inspiration. You will start by learning to straighten coiled copper wire; then to cut the wire into the pieces needed for your bracelet, and put them into a vise. I’ll demonstrate the technique for braiding the wire, and guide you as you braid. You will finish your bracelet with beaded ends. The class will include a discussion of finishing techniques and patinas.

About the instructor: Metalsmith/artist Carey Smith has an MFA from Temple University Art School in Philadelphia.
He taught jewelry and metalsmithing for 31 years at the college level.
He moved to Portland from Tucson in 2006.
